Systemic and Family Psychotherapist

As a qualified Systemic and Family Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, Teacher, Academic Practitioner Researcher, and writer with a rich Mental Health Social Work background, I bring diverse experience to my practice. My work has spanned various settings, from social care for children, including Children Looked After, to supporting different and uniquely abled children and young adults seeking asylum. I have also worked with adults in health and social care settings, including those with mental disorders and older adults with both organic (dementias) and functional disorders. In my roles across various Mental Health Trusts in London and Surrey, I have managed Social Care and Mental Health Services, further enhancing my expertise.

At my private practice, Juntos Family Therapy Service. "Juntos", which means "together" in Portuguese, encapsulates my belief that therapy is most effective when it is a joint effort between the practitioner and the family. This approach allows me to do the work I love, free from the complexities of large organisations. It ensures that each family feels involved and valued in their therapeutic journey.

By establishing a private practice, I have opened the doors to accessible family therapy services. I welcome both self-referrals and professional referrals, focusing on empowering families. I aim to provide affordable and high-quality family therapy services, giving families the confidence and control they need when engaging with systemic practitioners and therapists.

My hobbies and interests include academic writing about decolonising systemic praxis and education, travelling, cooking, and gardening.

RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships come in different shapes and sizes. We are always in a relationship with someone or something. Relationships can be healthy, unhealthy, or unbalanced for many reasons. We might not have people or pets around us to be in relationships with, but we still have relationships with ourselves.

MARITAL ISSUES

Marriage, civil partnerships, living together, online and long-distance relationships can be challenging. Things change or may not, and this can be problematic. Relational conversations can help.

MENTAL HEALTH

At some point in our lives, we expect to deal with our Physical Health, but we often do not carry the same expectations for our Mental Health. However, we all have mental health to different degrees and severity and for a variety of reasons, relational talking can help.

BREAKDOWN IN COMMUNICATION

We tend to think of communication as verbal. But language also includes touch, tears,  withdrawal, anger, silence, actions, tone of voice, and looks that convey meaning to one another. It can also manifest in illness and affect our mental and physical health. Finding ways to express feelings and thoughts in ways that make sense between those in the relationship (friendship, siblings, partners, neighbours, colleagues) is crucial.

DIVORCE

Divorce can be healthy but also painful and sad and create a sense of loss of relationships and contact between family members. Family therapy can help families consider what essential relationships can be in the future.

STRESS

Stress is insidious and affects us all differently. It creeps up on us, and we can become overwhelmed before we realise something is wrong. It is crucial to consider how stress affects our relationships and how we feel about ourselves.

Juntos Family Therapy Service offers three affordable Family Therapy Training Clinics with live supervision by a clinical supervisor. Our Tuesday clinic serves two families online every week from 4-7:30 p.m., while our Saturday clinic is currently online. We welcome donations in denominations of £5 per hour to help us provide this vital service. Please pay more if you can.

I provide monthly clinical supervision to qualified Family and Systemic Therapists for 1.5 hours at a cost of £85.
